SETI@home's New Look
By Amir Alexander
1 July 2004
As of June 22, 2004, SETI@home is no longer the stand-alone
project that we all know and love. It is, instead, the founding member
of the new BOINC family of distributed computing projects.
With the change in platform also comes a change in SETI@home's look. While
the unmistakable SETI@home look of the screen saver is generally preserved,
BOINC are able to choose between a variety of looks. As a BOINC user you can
decide on the color scheme of the display, add a logo of your user group,
control the pace of the display, and even incorporate an image of your own
choosing.
The images below give a general foretaste of what the different varieties of
the new SETI@home screensaver will look like. Click on any of them to view a
brief AVI movie of the screensaver in action. Keep in mind, however, that these
are only samples: when you run the new BOINC SETI@home on your own PC, it is
up to you to configure the display, and decide what the SETI@home screensaver
will look like on your computer.
